The crisp morning air caused a dense fog to roll in over the grassy hills. Morning dew clung to his boots as he walked towards the paddocks, a white cloud blew around his face with each exhale. It was the summer time, but because this place was located up north, it was cool in the morning. Not that Chase minded this, he enjoyed getting up this early in the morning. The cool air cleared his sinuses and he usually saw the sun rise each morning. It was also quiet, minus the sound of the birds happily chirping and the occasional swish of an equine's tail.
When he reached the wooden fence he let a whistle escape between his lips. Once he had done so, he scaled the fence to get onto the other side. Hoof beats sounded louder in his ears, announcing that his mare, Coco, was quickly approaching. A smile appeared on his finely shaped lips. He just couldn't feel angry around her, it just melted away. Soon the large Percheron graced him with her presence, stopping just a couple feet away. Chase closed the distance between the two of them, running his hand along her muscular neck, under her thick mane.
"And how is Coco doing this morning?" He asked aloud, knowing that no voice would answer in return. That didn't bother him in the least, he trusted this mare than any person he came into contact with. He did, however, feel something touch his muscular back. Glancing backwards, he saw her large face pointed towards him and her muzzle pressed against him, breathing in his scent. Turning around, he brought his hand to her forehead and stroked her face. "Time for morning feed?" he murmured before moving away from her and getting her morning grub in order.
Once he finished with his horse, he returned to the large home, stopping before he went inside to look at it. This place has belonged to his family for generations. Once a busy homestead was now home to one sole occupant. Well, plus a dog, cat, and horse. It got lonely sometimes, but he could easily solve that with a trip into town to the local bar. It wasn't hard to pick someone up, show them a good time, and then hear them leave in the morning. He didn't do that to often though and usually hated himself the next day when it did happen.
Taking a deep breath, he walked up the steps and into the house. Once inside, he was greeted by a squeaky loud meow. The large black cat was splayed out on the floor, looking up at Chase with his big yellow eyes. "Good morning Panther, do you require your morning can?" He said, voice mocking the cat as he walked towards the pantry to grab some canned cat food. Panther instantly scrambled off the floor and trotted towards his dish as he waited impatiently for the food to be dumped in. Once chase opened the can, he could hear loud banging upstairs and then a procession of thumps and bangs coming down the stairs.
Looking up he could see the brown doberman walk in a goofy way. "Hello there Jack Jack, is it time for you to be fed as well?" He asked, and in reply the dogs nub of a tail shook violently. Grinning, Chase got Jack's food ready and proceeded to feed him. After all the animals were fed, he reached his arms behind and cradled the back of his head in his hands before strolling over to the fridge and peering inside. Now what should I eat? He thought, looking in at the sparse amount of food that occupied his fridge. May need to go into town...
